Standards of ethical behavior in early childhood care and education are based on commitment to core values that are deeply rooted in the history of our field. We recognize that when faced with a unique or ethical dilemma, the “right course of action” is not always immediately obvious. When we find ourselves in these situations, we will always adhere to the highest of professional and ethical standards. As professionals and members of AYCE, we have committed ourselves to the following core Organizational Values to guide us in our behavior and decision making: Appreciation: Childhood is appreciated as a unique and valuable stage of the human life cycle and the close ties between child and family are appreciated and supported. Knowledge: Our work with children is based on a current knowledge of child development. Diversity: Recognizing that children are best understood and supported in the context of family, culture, community and society Respect: Respecting the dignity, worth and uniqueness of each individual (child, family member, and colleague). Commitment: Willingly, consistently, carrying out the goals of AYCE, NAEYC and the early childhood profession. Excellence driven…..customer focused…..going the “extra mile”. Competence: Obtaining, maintaining and applying knowledge, skills and abilities to do the job right. “Giving your best, nothing less”. Integrity: Living within the spirit as well as the word of the “law”, avoiding deception…your word is “bond”. Cooperation: Initiating and promoting cooperation and partnerships among agencies that work for and support well-being in young children. ayce Guiding Principles ayce Guiding Principles reinforce the ayce Organizational Values. They prescribe how we operate, treat our membership, customers and each other. They provide the philosophical basis for decision-making among leadership:
